Enphase Energy (NASDAQ: ENPH) posted Q2 2026 revenue of $291.9 million, a slim beat against the $290.3 million consensus and a 3% sequential gain. The headline number masks a quarter of unusual moving parts. A $45.4 million tariff refund inflated GAAP gross margin to 60.0%, while non-GAAP gross margin reached a more operational 46.8%, up 290 basis points from Q1. Non-GAAP diluted EPS of $0.46 nearly matched the $0.46 consensus estimate, down from $0.69 a year ago.
Sequential revenue growth came from two distinct sources. Safe harbor revenue surged to $84.3 million from $34.5 million in Q1, as installers locked in equipment under the 5% Investment Tax Credit safe harbor and Physical Work Test provisions. European revenue jumped 35% sequentially, partially offsetting a 3% decline in the US. IQ Battery shipments rose 10% to 113.8 MWh, and the certified installer base expanded to over 25,000 from 24,000 in Q1.

The tariff refund is the quarter's most distorting item. Enphase received $41 million from US Customs and Border Protection during Q2, with another $11 million received after quarter end. Of the total $52 million, $45.4 million was recognized as a reduction to cost of revenues, adding 15.6 percentage points to GAAP gross margin. The company excludes these refunds from non-GAAP measures because they relate to tariffs paid in prior periods. The underlying tariff impact on Q2 non-GAAP gross margin was approximately 2.0 percentage points, down from 4.3 points in Q1 as reciprocal tariff headwinds eased.
Non-GAAP operating expenses rose to $79.8 million from $77.0 million in Q1, driven by increased R&D investment. The company is spending on next-generation products: the IQ9N residential microinverter using gallium nitride (GaN) technology, the IQ9S-3P commercial microinverter, and the IQ Battery G5, which promises 50% higher energy density and 40% lower cost than the current generation. The most capital-intensive bet is the IQ Solid-State Transformer (IQ SST) for AI data centers, where Enphase says it has achieved key technical milestones and is engaging customers on multi-gigawatt opportunities.
Q3 guidance calls for revenue of $290 million to $320 million, implying continued sequential growth at the midpoint. Non-GAAP gross margin is expected at 44% to 47%, with tariff impacts remaining at approximately 2 percentage points. The guidance includes approximately $75 million of safe harbor shipments, down from Q2's $84.3 million, suggesting the safe harbor tailwind may be moderating. Battery shipments are forecast at 130 to 150 MWh, a step up from Q2's 113.8 MWh.
The company ended Q2 with $937.7 million in cash and marketable securities and generated $25.9 million in free cash flow. The balance sheet remains strong, with no debt maturing until 2028 after the Q1 settlement of the 2026 notes.
What matters for the rest of 2026 is whether the underlying demand recovery is durable. The safe harbor revenue is a pull-forward of future demand, not new end-market growth. European sales are recovering from a deep trough, but the US market remains soft. The tariff refund is a one-time benefit that will not repeat. The real operational story is the non-GAAP gross margin trajectory: if Enphase can hold margins near 46% as tariff impacts fade and new products ramp, the earnings power of the current revenue base is materially higher than the GAAP headline suggests. The IQ SST remains a long-duration option on AI infrastructure, not a near-term earnings driver. For now, the quarter confirms stabilization, not acceleration.
